HOF082: Vu Ninh
After spending a year and a half in the re-education camp for his military service, Vu Ninh was determined to leave Vietnam at his first chance. An opportunity to leave came in 1980 when he was offered space for two on a boat carrying 200. He had to make the tough choice of splitting the family apart and bringing only one of his three children—five-year-old Thuan, his youngest. The father and son pair were sponsored by Vu’s sister to Montreal for a year, before they moved to Toronto where Vu looked for better job opportunities while caring for his young child.
