HOF150: Bob Liddle

When members of the congregation of St. David United Church in Calgary, Alberta sponsored an extended family of eight escapees from Vietnam, the support they provided went far beyond helping the refugees find housing, language training and employment. As Bob Liddle, the chair of the sponsorship team recalls, the sponsors helped a couple, both doctors in Vietnam, re-qualify for their medical licenses. The refugees were so grateful that they named members of the family after their sponsors. For the congregation, that experience would be the first of eight more sponsorship commitments.
