HOF076: Ha Phu Cuong

From the vastness of the Pacific Ocean to the flowing waters of the St. Lawrence River, Ha Phu Cuong is no stranger to the sea. He was a navigation teacher and part of the Vietnamese navy for seven years. During his time with the navy, he assisted Vietnamese refugees fleeing from central Vietnam heading south. Little did he know, he would be fleeing himself, away from Vietnam to a world of uncertainty. After a brief spell at two U.S. refugee camps, Nguyen came to Montreal with his wife. It took him only one week before he found work, also in shipping. His career would include teaching at a navigation school in Montreal, and patenting inventions for navigating by the stars and for determining cargo placement on ships.
