HOF018:(PHAM) BUCHAN Tho Trong

in 1981, Buchan Tho Trong was just 12 when he had to fend for himself on a boat with a damaged engine, adrift in the seas near Thailand. Day after day, a horrific routine would unfold as Thai fishermen stormed the boat he was on, searching for valuables and taking the women and girls onboard their vessels. Seeing no end to the attacks, Buchan made a daring decision to take his destiny into his own hands. What followed was a gripping story of a young boy surviving at the mercy of pirates, then ultimately being sponsored to Canada by a high-school teacher who would raise him as a son.
