HOF020: THAM Le Kim Thu

For Kim Thu Tham, her husband and six-year-old son, the Hong Kong-bound journey out of Vietnam was an eventful one, starting with the betrayal by a greed-motivated crew, followed by a month-long delay on the island of Hainan, when the cargo ship they were travelling on was damaged.
Once at camp, the family was sponsored Canada by a group of private citizens. Tham’s discovery at the Ottawa airport that she was had sponsors to help with resettlement moved her to tears. But motivated not to be a burden to the sponsors, Tham put her prior English skills to use and quickly found work just months after her arrival.
