En conse\u0301quence, il a e\u0301te\u0301 envoye\u0301 vivre avec sa tante, son oncle et ses cousins jusqu\u2019a\u0300 l\u2019a\u0302ge de 20 ans. \nLorsque la situation politique et e\u0301conomique au Laos est devenue intenable pour lui, il a pu, en tant que ce\u0301libataire, s'e\u0301chapper du Laos avec l'aide de ses amis. Il a traverse\u0301 le Me\u0301kong vers la Thai\u0308lande, ou\u0300 il a e\u0301te\u0301 appre\u0301hende\u0301 et de\u0301tenu par la police thai\u0308landaise. Il se souvenait d'un e\u0301ve\u0300nement effrayant au cours duquel il avait e\u0301te\u0301 interroge\u0301 par un officier de police qui lui avait pointe\u0301 une arme a\u0300 feu sur la te\u0302te en l\u2019accusant d\u2019e\u0302tre un espion vietnamien. Il a finalement re\u0301ussi a\u0300 les convaincre qu'il e\u0301tait laotien et non un espion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0cm; margin-bottom: .0001pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; color: #333333;\">Pendant son se\u0301jour en Thai\u0308lande, il a passe\u0301 2 ans et 5 mois dans le camp de re\u0301fugie\u0301s de Nong Khai o\u00f9 il a rencontre\u0301 et \u00e9pous\u00e9 une jeune femme. Apre\u0300s leur long se\u0301jour dans le camp, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9, avec son \u00e9pouse et beau-fre\u0300re a\u0300 immigrer au Canada. Ils se sont d'abord installe\u0301s a\u0300 Winnipeg, ou\u0300 sa fille est ne\u0301e. Plus tard, la famille a brie\u0300vement \u00e9t\u00e9 de passage a\u0300 Ottawa, puis a\u0300 Toronto, ou\u0300 il a trouve\u0301 un emploi et y est rest\u00e9 pendant 12 ans.
