Il se rappelle vaguement de son enfance. Cependant, ses exp\u00e9riences marqueront sa m\u00e9moire pour toujours. Le 17 avril 1975, le jeune Bokhara a t\u00e9moign\u00e9 l\u2019occupation de la capitale par les troupes Khmers rouges. Expuls\u00e9e de leur ville natale, sa famille s\u2019\u00e9vade avec seulement un peu de nourriture et leur v\u00e9hicule. Ils ont conduit jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9puisement d\u2019essence. Cela les a oblig\u00e9s \u00e0 se diriger vers la campagne \u00e0 pied. Durant cet exode, sa famille a v\u00e9cu de grandes mis\u00e8res et de la famine. Ces \u00e9preuves ont pouss\u00e9 son p\u00e8re \u00e0 se suicider, abandonnant sa m\u00e8re et ses cinq fr\u00e8res et s\u0153urs.<\/p>\n<p>En 1979, sa famille retourne \u00e0 Phnom Penh, devenu une ville fant\u00f4me. Cherchant la libert\u00e9, le jeune Bokhara d\u00e9cide de quitter le pays et se dirige vers la fronti\u00e8re tha\u00eflandaise. Il a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 d\u00e9passer la fronti\u00e8re afin d\u2019\u00e9viter d\u2019\u00eatre attrap\u00e9 par les soldats communistes. Plus tard, il a rencontr\u00e9 un pr\u00eatre qui participait dans un projet d\u2019aide humanitaire au camp de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9 Khao-I-Dang.
