Souvent durant l\u2019occupation des Khmers rouges, il se r\u00e9veillait le matin et s\u2019apercevait que les personnes disparaissaient de son village. Soucieux de sa s\u00e9curit\u00e9, il a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de quitter le Cambodge.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque l'invasion a eu lieu, Kong et sa famille se sont \u00e9chapp\u00e9 jusqu'\u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re tha\u00eflandaise o\u00f9 ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 escort\u00e9s jusqu'au camp de Khao I Dang. Pendant le s\u00e9jour de la famille dans le camp de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s, Kong esp\u00e9rait \u00eatre parrain\u00e9 par des proches qui vivaient en Australie. Cependant, le processus de parrainage \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s lent.
