Le Vietcong a ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 son grand-p\u00e8re et son p\u00e8re a \u00e9migr\u00e9 \u00e0 Vientiane, la capitale du Laos en raison des cons\u00e9quences du communisme. Apr\u00e8s la chute de Saigon, son p\u00e8re a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 qu'il \u00e9tait temps de quitter le Laos et qu'il devrait partir en premier. \u00c0 son arriv\u00e9e en Tha\u00eflande, il a envoy\u00e9 un guide pour escorter sa famille \u00e0 travers les jungles et aux rives du M\u00e9kong jusqu'en Tha\u00eflande.<\/p>\n<p>La famille a \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9unie, mais puisqu\u2019ils \u00e9taient des immigrants ill\u00e9gaux, ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 emprisonn\u00e9s. Peu apr\u00e8s, ils se sont rendus au camp de Nong Khai o\u00f9 son p\u00e8re a eu une entrevue avec les agents d'immigration Canada. La demande d'asile de la famille a \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9e et ils \u00e9taient impatients de quitter le camp de Nong Khai aussit\u00f4t que possible.<\/p>\n<p>Lorsque Viengsamay est arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 Vancouver, lui et sa famille ont aid\u00e9 \u00e0 cr\u00e9er une association laotienne pour aider les nouveaux arrivants de l'Asie du Sud-Est \u00e0 s'installer au Canada.
