Il a rencontr\u00e9 sa future \u00e9pouse lors de son s\u00e9jour dans ce pays. Le couple est retourn\u00e9 au Laos au milieu des bouleversements sociaux et \u00e9conomiques dans leur pays natal. Peu apr\u00e8s leur retour, lui et sa jeune femme ont d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de s'\u00e9chapper. Leur plan \u00e9tait de traverser le M\u00e9kong \u00e0 la nage. Le couple a pratiqu\u00e9 la natation avant leur d\u00e9part afin de d\u00e9velopper l'endurance pour atteindre les c\u00f4tes tha\u00eflandaises. Le jour de leur d\u00e9part, ils ont construit un radeau avec des feuilles de bananier. Le radeau \u00e9tait instable, mais malgr\u00e9 leurs difficult\u00e9s, ils ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 atteindre la Tha\u00eflande.<\/p>\n<p>Une fois en Tha\u00eflande, ils sont rest\u00e9s dans un camp de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s et ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 obtenir l'asile au Canada.
