Apr\u00e8s l'offensive du T\u00eat en 1968, lorsque son p\u00e8re a d\u00fb se cacher bri\u00e8vement ou risquer la mort, la famille a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de chercher le refuge dans le sud.<\/p>\n<p>Deux ans apr\u00e8s la chute de Saigon, Nguyen, 17 ans, a \u00e9t\u00e9 appel\u00e9 au service militaire. Il a plut\u00f4t d\u00e9cid\u00e9 d'aller dans la clandestinit\u00e9, souhaitant la protection des paroissiens catholiques et cherchant de la nourriture pendant une p\u00e9riode de p\u00e9nurie g\u00e9n\u00e9ralis\u00e9e. Au cours de ces trois ann\u00e9es d\u2019anonymat, Nguyen a \u00e9galement tent\u00e9 de rassembler ses efforts pour fuir le pays, offrant ses services aux organisateurs et m\u00eame, \u00e0 contrec\u0153ur, prendre les bijoux de mariage de sa m\u00e8re qu'elle lui avait donn\u00e9s.
