Elle est membre d\u2019une famille proche qui partageait l\u2019amour, le bonheur et la tristesse. Elle se souvient d\u2019avoir grandi dans un milieu familial ais\u00e9.<br \/>Khamkong Phommarinh est aussi n\u00e9 dans la province de Khammouane. Contrairement \u00e0 Keota, il a grandi dans le village de Thakhek, au Laos. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 8 ans, Khamkong a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de quitter sa famille pour continuer ses \u00e9tudes \u00e0 l\u2019ext\u00e9rieur du village. Il a donc habit\u00e9 avec une nouvelle famille pendant ses \u00e9tudes du niveau primaire. Il n\u2019a jamais retourn\u00e9 \u00e0 son village natal apr\u00e8s son d\u00e9part. C\u2019est plus tard qu\u2019il a \u00e9tudi\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00c9cole Sup\u00e9rieure de P\u00e9dagogie \u00e0 Ventiane o\u00f9 il rencontra sa future conjointe.<br \/>Lorsque le r\u00e9gime communiste du Vietnam a pris le contr\u00f4le du gouvernement, Khamkong et Keota ressentaient de la peur et du malaise. Un soir, le couple a d\u00e9cid\u00e9 de partir avec leurs enfants pendant la nuit, abandonnant leur maison et tous leurs biens. Ils quitt\u00e8rent alors le pays, souhaitant de s\u2019\u00e9vader de l\u2019\u00e9tat communiste.<br \/>Arriv\u00e9 \u00e0 la rivi\u00e8re M\u00e9kong \u00e0 quelques pas d\u2019un nouvel espoir, la famille \u00e9prouvait la peur. Ils sont finalement arriv\u00e9s dans la province de Nakhon Phanom en Tha\u00eflande et se sont \u00e9tablis pour la nuit. Le lendemain, les gardes du village ont appr\u00e9hend\u00e9 la famille. Avant que celle-ci soit amen\u00e9e au poste de police, une ancienne \u00e9tudiante de Khamkong l\u2019a reconnu et a aid\u00e9 la famille \u00e0 trouver un refuge. Apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 approuv\u00e9 par les autorit\u00e9s, la famille s\u2019est dirig\u00e9e vers un camp de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s dans la province de Ubon Ratchathani au Tha\u00eflande.<br \/>La famille Phommarinh n\u2019a pas demeur\u00e9 longtemps au camp, leur demande d\u2019asile ayant \u00e9t\u00e9 accept\u00e9e par des repr\u00e9sentants d\u2019Immigration Canada.
