En 1975, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 envoy\u00e9 dans un camp de r\u00e9\u00e9ducation dans la jungle. Deux ans apr\u00e8s sa captivit\u00e9, Phan a mis au point un plan d'\u00e9vacuation qui consistait \u00e0 se cacher sous un ch\u00e2ssis de camion et \u00e0 s'accrocher au ch\u00e2ssis pendant 24 heures alors que le camion se dirigeait vers l'ancienne ville de Saigon.<\/p>\n<p>Il a v\u00e9cu en anonymat pendant deux ans, dormant dans la canop\u00e9e des arbres dans les parcs de la ville, ou sous les plates-formes couvertes dans les march\u00e9s.
