Leur p\u00e8re \u00e9tait un officier militaire. Leur m\u00e8re \u00e9tait directrice adjointe d'une \u00e9cole locale. Ils avaient 3 autres soeurs et un fr\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<p>Une fois que les communistes ont occup\u00e9 le Laos en 1975, leurs parents sont devenus de plus en plus soucieux de la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de la famille. Ils se sont interrog\u00e9s sur la s\u00e9curit\u00e9 de l\u2019emploi, le rationnement des denr\u00e9es alimentaires, l\u2019instabilit\u00e9 de la monnaie et les politiques sociales et \u00e9conomiques restrictives du nouveau gouvernement.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 l\u2019automne 1975, leurs parents ont commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 planifier l\u2019\u00e9vasion de la famille du Laos. Finalement, au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1980, ils ont r\u00e9veill\u00e9 leurs enfants au milieu de la nuit et leur ont demand\u00e9 de pr\u00e9parer quelques affaires. En pr\u00e9vision de leur d\u00e9part, leur m\u00e8re les a habill\u00e9s des v\u00eatements des habitants des zones rurales afin d'\u00e9viter l'attention locale. Ils ont march\u00e9 pendant plusieurs heures et ont atteint le M\u00e9kong. Ils ont pay\u00e9 les passeurs pour les emmener dans un petit bateau sur les c\u00f4tes de la Tha\u00eflande.<\/p>\n<p>En Tha\u00eflande, ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 appr\u00e9hend\u00e9s et menac\u00e9s par des soldats tha\u00eflandais. Les soldats ont d\u00e9couvert que leur p\u00e8re \u00e9tait un b\u00e9ret vert. \u00c0 ce moment-l\u00e0, ils ont dirig\u00e9 la famille vers un poste de police local. La police les a emmen\u00e9s au camp de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s de Nong Khai. Pendant leur s\u00e9jour dans le camp, les agents d'immigration canadiens ont engag\u00e9 leur p\u00e8re comme interpr\u00e8te, tandis que leur m\u00e8re vendait de petits articles pour gagner de l'argent.<\/p>\n<p>La famille avait demand\u00e9 le statut de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s de plusieurs pays et s'\u00e9tait install\u00e9e au Canada comme destination finale. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 envoy\u00e9s \u00e0 Bangkok en pr\u00e9paration de leur voyage au Canada. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 transport\u00e9s par avion \u00e0 Longue-Pointe, une base militaire pr\u00e8s de Montr\u00e9al, au Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<p>Leurs premiers jours au Canada ont \u00e9t\u00e9 difficiles, car ils devaient s\u2019adapter aux conditions strictes du camp militaire, aux conditions hivernales et aux barri\u00e8res linguistiques. La famille a finalement adopt\u00e9 sa nouvelle communaut\u00e9 et a ensuite prosp\u00e9r\u00e9 dans son pays d'adoption.<\/p>\n<div class=\"videowrapper\"><iframe class=\"video\"
