Alors que le bateau approchait les eaux de Singapour, un navire de guerre de ce pays a bloqu\u00e9 son approche, alors m\u00eame que le petit navire commen\u00e7ait \u00e0 prendre l'eau et \u00e0 se d\u00e9sint\u00e9grer. Alors que les passagers s'accrochaient aux planches de bois et aux conteneurs en plastique pour rester \u00e0 flots au milieu des vagues, le navire singapourien a fait un geste sinc\u00e8re pour secourir les femmes et les enfants. En cons\u00e9quence, ce geste a presque entra\u00een\u00e9 la quasi-noyade de Tran et la mort d'une m\u00e8re et de son jeune enfant. Tran et un neveu ont pass\u00e9 les 24 heures suivantes \u00e0 s'accrocher \u00e0 des conteneurs vides, \u00e0 d\u00e9river dans les eaux internationales, avant d'\u00eatre secourus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" data-removefontsize=\"true\" data-originalcomputedfontsize=\"13\">Tran Anh Kiet \u00e9tait un ing\u00e9nieur form\u00e9 au Canada et directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral adjoint dans une usine \u00e9lectrique g\u00e9r\u00e9e par l'\u00c9tat lorsque la guerre du Vietnam a pris fin en 1975. Une tentative rat\u00e9e de quitter le pays a provoqu\u00e9 l'emprisonnement de Tran pendant trois ans. Une fois lib\u00e9r\u00e9, Tran est reparti en 1980, dans un bateau surcharg\u00e9 de 60 personnes. Apr\u00e8s trois jours en mer, le bateau a pris l'eau et les passagers ont \u00e9t\u00e9 secourus par un navire australien. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 emmen\u00e9s dans un camp \u00e0 Singapour, o\u00f9 Tran a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9 directeur du camp gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son exp\u00e9rience de travail.
