Ils ont ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 leur plan d'\u00e9vacuation en marchant vers les montagnes tha\u00eflandaises. Ils ont utilis\u00e9 des tactiques de survie et ont r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 \u00e9viter d'\u00eatre d\u00e9tect\u00e9s par les Khmers rouges. Ils ont quitt\u00e9 leur pays pendant la saison s\u00e8che. En cons\u00e9quence, il y avait peu d'eau \u00e0 boire. Ils ont \u00e9galement v\u00e9cu de nombreux jours de famine.<\/p>\n<p>Plusieurs fois, affam\u00e9s et \u00e9puis\u00e9s, ils craignaient pour leur survie. Finalement, ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 en mesure de trouver suffisamment de nourriture et d'eau pour survivre leur p\u00e9rilleux voyage vers la libert\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Ils sont arriv\u00e9s en Tha\u00eflande o\u00f9 ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 emprisonn\u00e9s pour avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 des immigrants ill\u00e9gaux. Mean a plaid\u00e9 sa cause en tant que r\u00e9fugi\u00e9 mais a \u00e9t\u00e9 condamn\u00e9 \u00e0 quarante-cinq jours de prison. Cependant, il a gagn\u00e9 la sympathie des agents de correction et a eu une certaine libert\u00e9 lors de la d\u00e9termination de sa peine.<\/p>\n<p>Il a ensuite \u00e9t\u00e9 envoy\u00e9 dans le camp de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s, o\u00f9 il a travaill\u00e9 comme traducteur fran\u00e7ais pour un responsable de l'immigration canadienne qui a approuv\u00e9 sa demande de statut de r\u00e9fugi\u00e9. Au Canada, il a continu\u00e9 \u00e0 offrir ses comp\u00e9tences de traducteur et s'est ensuite port\u00e9 volontaire de supporter le parrainage de Cambodgiens souhaitant s'\u00e9tablir au Canada. Avec le temps, il a rencontr\u00e9 sa femme et passe maintenant du temps avec ses petits-enfants.<\/p>\n<div class=\"videowrapper\"><iframe class=\"video\"
